Katie

I just spent the evening with Kate and Jordan. Kate turns 31 this weekend. She will be in Hawaii with Jordan. Lucky duck!

She loved her new sewing machine Jordan got her. It is named “Brother”. I wonder if she appreciates having a little brother in her house again.

Kate made the best bread tonight. It was all sourdoughy and wheaty.

Kate was bemoaning the fact there are only 2500 wild Zebras left in the world. It is a very small number. I wonder why there are so few? They are a relative of the horse, I wonder if anyone has ever tamed one?

  1. Some good news about the zebra is that Jen, my wildlife roommate, found a site where they estimated that the population for at least the Plains zebra, is estimated to be ~500,000 in a couple of countries (sorry, I couldn’t remember what she said, but Tanzania was one of them) and another 100,000 in some other country. Maybe the 2500 was an estimate for a different zebra species; I guess there are a few zebra species. They have been extripated from much of their historical range, which is often a reason for loss of population and diversity. Sorry if I’m geeking out too much.

    Happy Birthday Kate!!!!
