  • Parents Against Junk Food

I survived on popcorn, soda and pizza through high school (that was, until my mom found out and started making ham sandwiches for me). But I was lucky and had a solid breakfast and dinner every day. What about the kids who don’t have good eating role models at home? Seems like they’ll be doomed…

  • Vancouver Weekend

Kei and I spent the weekend in Vancouver, BC, attending a wedding for one of her friends, Sue. We visited the Kintaro Ramen house when we were there. It was everything I imagined (and possibly more as I’ve been on a low carb diet). Here is a brief video…

  • Rainy season

It looks like summer is over. Rain is falling. School is in session. And Kei and I are thinking about automobiles. With Kei at a full time job, I can’t use her Mazda 323 anymore. So I’m driving the blue gas guzzler to work most days. It’s a great reliable ride, but my internal calculus…

  • Lighthouse Baristas

Lighthouse Baristas Originally uploaded by ekraay. So I feel guilty. I was at a dinner party the other night with Jordan, Kate, and some English folk, David and Liz, bad mouthing Lightouse. I love their coffee, but I felt their baristas were a little too uppity. But after going today, and maybe it’s just the…

  • Practice makes perfect

I went to sailing practice last night on Tachyon, Shaun’s newer Farr 40. We headed North from Shilshole Marina in the Puget Sound. It was a beautiful clear night, with consistent breeze at 10 knots. We headed upwind for an hour, while they inspected the new rig. Then we pointed back for Shilshole, while the…

  • Roman Holiday

Kei and I watched Roman Holiday tonight, the movie that popularized short women’s haircuts and vespa scooters.

  • Mount Pugh

bugs-and-che Originally uploaded by ekraay. Kei, Karl, Carol and hiked up Mount Pugh on Sunday. These are Karl’s photos. I left my camera battery in the charger. Idiot! We left Seattle in the big blue egg, Karl’s new Previa, around 6 am. We got to the trailhead around 8:45. We climbed a couple thousand feet…

  • Google adding face recognition technology to Picasa

They caught the famous MIT Blackjack team with it, now they want to introduce it to Picasa. Google announced that it was going to bring face facial recognition software technology to photos, so I can automatically find all photos with Grandma in them, for instance. Very slick.
