EPIC Top Ten Privacy Resolutions for 2005
I’m not a privacy nut. Yes, I have a paper shredder, which I use to prevent identity theft from credit card offers. I check my credit report occasionally, and I could never get myself to fill out those warranty registration cards (lazy).
But I still use my credit and debit cards (lazy). I probably could be safer with registration information on websites.
Yet as my business get’s more and more closely tied with the direct mailing industry — go where the money is, right — I am beginning to see why the above recommendations by EPIC seem very wise. There are billions of dollars in the direct marketing industry, and since they are recently closed off to telemarketing thanks to the Federal Do Not Call (DNC) list that money is being funnelled into direct mail.
So, you probably have noticed that you get more junk mail than ever since the DNC list has caught on. If nothing else, I would recommend opting out of the pre-approved credit card offers here. I know I for one do not need any more tempting offers for more credit cards!
