Reviews

I just finished my employee’s quarterly evaluations. I’m glad cast off the mantle of the manager and his corporate speak. There must be a way to keep your soul and work in the corporate world.

Who am I kidding…there isn’t. Now where is my bonus!

Power Outage

I got a call around 9 am that there was a power outage at work. I finally finished dealing with that at 5:30 pm. The good news is that it gave me a good opportunity to reorganize the server room. The bad news is that I am now going to work on reviews.

I like Bartells. I went in there this morning and told them they gave me half the amount of pills they should have. They just gave me the other half, without me having to do any paperwork. That is good customer service.

Thirteen Floor Elevators, Lamb

I went over to Rob’s house this afternoon after a church. I visited for awhile with Rob and Charlotte in their kitchen. Rob had scotch and soda, Charlotte had wine, I had a lemon-lime Shasta.

After visiting for awhile, Rob and I went to his basement and he played me an old record from the 60’s called the Thirteen Floor Elevators. One guy in the band played the electric jug, whatever that is. It sounded like an owl in pain.

Then I showed him how to rip cd’s so the track names were included. He has a fancy Dell DJ that he’s quite happy with. I could have spent two days with him, fixing up his old computer and showing him how to use his software. Unfortunately, there wasn’t time. They were only just back from Utah and I had to go to dinner. It was nice to see them again, however briefly.

I then went back to Grassland Ct. where Mom and Jane served up a giant leg of lamb. Grandma almost choked on a very large slice. Luckily she was able to get it out. Mom cut the slices for her after that. The meal was very quiet until we broke into a discussion of politics. Luckily that ended with two cakes, one yellow and one brown, and a steaming cup of decaf coffee. We then started telling stories about trouble we had all got into as children.

I had just found out from Rob that I almost died when I was 4 by wandering onto the freeway. Mom and Rob were driving to Virginia from Boise. They stopped to look at Lava Hot Springs at a pulloff on the side of Highway 30. I had wandered back onto the road. The large semi was bearing down on me, honking its horn. Mom grabbed me by the shoulder before I was turned into road kill. She promptly spanked me, so I was told. I don’t remember any of this.

My favorite was when Jane and Mom were reminiscing about Jane and her jumping on the bed. They were told “no” by grandpa, several times. But they didn’t listen. Then Mom fell down and hit her head. She had to get stiches. Jane said she wasn’t jumping, but I guess she pushed Mom down. She felt so guilty because the next day was Halloween, and she might have caused Mom to miss the bags of candy. So she was prepared to take an extra pillowcase for mom, to make up for it. I don’t know if Mom every made it to Halloween that year.

I enjoyed the laughter that came from reminiscing. Tomorrow, however, it’s back to work for me. I leave early for my flight. I think I arrive about 5 minutes after I take off, due to the time change. I’m looking forward to seeing Bertie.

Dad and Mom got a house!

Mom and Dad closed on a new house in Cafilornia. Boy, aren’t they becoming the landed elite! Here is a picture of dad in front of it.

You can see it’s new because Dad has a clipboard and there is a fashionable mud lawn. Notice the two garages! Guess where the Land Rover is going…

Worry, why do I let myself worry?
Wond’ring, what in the world did I do?

So I didn’t leave the light on after all, and Kate told me that the light went off. I guess I forgot that. Jeez, where does my mind go?

All Nighter

I think Bertie pulled an all nighter last night. Kate called me tonight around 7:40 pm from my house. She was feeding Bertie. The lights were still on in the kitchen. At the time, I didn’t think much of it. Perhaps, I thought, I had knocked the timer switch so it turned off a little later.

Then I remembered, about 20 minutes after her call, that I had turned on the timer to the ‘always on’ setting. It must have been like this all night. I am really worried that this is going to mess up his biological clock, or worse. Chameleons are such visual creatures.

I couldn’t get ahold of Kate. I called Jordan and he’s going to drive over there tonight when Kate gets back from the People’s Pub in Ballard. I am so lucky to have such a great Sister and Brother in law.

I really need to hook up the digital video camera on Bertie. That way I can live out my Chameleon neurosis online, and not through my friends and family.

Boise

This is my first post using WordPress. I like it already. The font is nice and serif-fy.

I’m here in Boise today. Got in last night at midnight. I have a headache. I drank 4 Nalgene’s worth of water and took two aspirin. We’ll see what happens.

My grandma is taking a nap in the spare room. I was happy to see her earlier. She was wearing a very plush baby blue sweater I gave her a year ago for Christmas. We hugged eachother for a solid minute.

I hope to get a couple photos of her. When I figure out how to post my photos, I’ll put them up here.

Mom and Dad are out getting their hair cut. (Is that one word?) I feel like a kid again, here at home with no car and nowhere to go. It is nice.
